Full Moon Ceremony

Honouring the power of the moon

The moon is a powerful entity that feels symbolic to so many people. It is something that connects all humans on this planet. A person in Iceland and a person in Australia, on distant corners of this planet could be looking up at the night sky and both are watching the same moon. It is in constant flux, night by night reflecting different amounts of light back at us, blessing us with beautiful shapes as it waxes and wanes.

To honour the full moon, and use it as an opportunity to come together to take stock of the present moment and look onwards into the future, we held a full moon circle ceremony at Yoga Tangalle. Without judgement or expectations, a group of people sat together in the beautiful rooftop yoga shala to take part in rituals to honour the month that has passed and to look ahead to the month that will follow.

Incorporating chanting, singing, movement and a small ritual burning pieces of paper, the group was led through the process together, beginning by holding hands and ending in the same way. For this ceremony, there was even powerful rain crashing around us, mirroring the internal cleansing we were hoping to welcome in. In the safe and sacred space, members of the group shared their experiences if they wanted to do so. Together, we embraced the power of the moon and the power within each of us to shape our own lives.
